Giving Pearls as Gifts

As the summer comes to a close, we are reminded just how soon the holidays will be upon us. Once the weather begins to cool, Halloween candy and costumes take over the store, and are quickly followed by Thanksgiving turkeys and pumpkin pies. Before you know it, the biggest of all holiday seasons will be here, and you will need to start thinking about gifts.

If you’re like many of us, the gift-giving season seems to sneak up on you each year. You always think that there is more time to shop, and you put it off. But that just leads to stress and impulse shopping. This year, do something different and get started early!

Pearls make the perfect holiday gift. Plus, if you start your shopping early, you will give yourself the opportunity to shop for the perfect pearls at the perfect price.  Here are a few suggestions:

Go with a reputable dealer. It may be tempting simply to look for the best price. But as the old adage goes, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. The pearl’s classic look should fit any wardrobe for years to come. But if you purchase pearls which are cheaply-priced because they are of poor quality (or if they are fake), then you will have wasted your money on a purchase that is not likely to last.

Also, think about your wearer. Unless you are positive as to what the perfect gift would be, it’s always better to play it safe. Fortunately, pearls suit nearly every skin tone and style. And if you’re in doubt, speak with a jeweler you trust. You can often see which items are most popular and most appropriate for your recipient.
