Rene Russo, Golf, And The Birth Of A Fashion Trend

Finding out that a celebrity was responsible for a new fashion trend is nothing new, but how many people can claim that they helped bring an entire new style of jewelry into the mainstream. If you are Rene Russo, you can do just that.

Tin Cup Pearls

Tin Cup pearls are an interesting style that isn’t often seen. They are defined as a string of pearls with a large separation between each individual pearl, and were not brought into the mainstream until Rene Russo wore them on the 1990s movie “Tin Cup”. What made these pearls interesting is that the actual pearls themselves were not as close together, which allowed designers to do a lot of interesting things with the jewelry itself.

To start, the chains in between the pearls could be many different materials. Some designers chose to use simple gold or silver chains, but many more decided that using diamonds or a variety of precious metals surrounding each pearl on the strand was a better choice.

After the movie originally aired, the style became incredibly popular before dying out just as quickly (and unexpectedly). However, a few years ago the style began to revive itself, making a number of appearances on the red carpet.

Why the sudden interest in tincup pearl necklaces? The easy answer is that a tin cup necklace or pearl bracelet lets you wear pearls, but also shows that you can break the mold and try something different. They can also be worn in a number of different ways, and one of the most interesting styles is one that you will not see on more traditional pearl options: the use of many different colored pearls on the same strand.
