It’s been a debated topic for years, whether one should mix and match earrings and necklaces; or wear ones that come together in a set. Some people worry that the look of matching sets can be dated, and they do have a point to an extent. However, matching sets can work as much as mixing and matching sometimes doesn’t work.
Some people think that matching earrings and necklaces look outdated and too put together. This isn’t necessarily the case though. If you wear the right pieces of jewelry in the right way, it can look beautifully classic and lady-like.
It is generally accepted that if you are going to wear a matching set, it’s best to keep the pearls smaller and simpler – to use them as an elegant finishing touch as opposed to the star of the show, and obviously the rest of your outfit needs to be taken into account as well. The key is to have a look at your style; if you feel comfortable and like the look, go for it!
Or Not to Match…
There’s a difference between wearing jewelry that comes in a set and jewelry that matches. If you want to wear pearl earrings and a pearl necklace, you can. The issue is to be creative and match pieces that didn’t necessarily come together but have a similar color, style, shape or detail that can tie the whole outfit together.
The real answer is that it’s all down to personal taste and your individual style. There really is no rule saying that you shouldn’t match jewelry sets, but the best thing to do is to stand in front of the mirror, admire your pearls and judge it within the outfit as a whole.
